UPSC CSE Prelims 2025: Registration Open – Key Dates, Eligibility, and Vacancies



The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the Civil Services Preliminary Examination (CSE) 2025 and the Indian Forest Service (IFS) Prelims. The exams are scheduled for May 25, 2025. Eligible candidates can check the official notification and apply online. Here's all you need to know:

  • Application Start Date: January 22, 2025
  • Last Date to Apply: February 11, 2025
  • Exam Date: May 25, 2025

Exam Overview

The Preliminary Exam consists of two objective papers:

  1. Paper I – General Studies: Covers topics like geography, history, politics, and current affairs.
  2. Paper II – CSAT: Tests communication, reasoning, and aptitude skills.

Passing the Prelims makes you eligible for the Mains Exam.

Vacancies

UPSC has announced 979 vacancies across various civil service roles, including reserved slots for PwBD categories:

  • Blindness & Low Vision: 12
  • Deaf & Hard of Hearing: 7
  • Locomotor Disabilities: 10
  • Multiple Disabilities: 9

Eligibility Criteria

1. Nationality

  • Indian citizens can apply for IAS, IPS, and IFS.
  • Certain other categories are eligible for other services.

2. Age Limit

  • Minimum: 21 years
  • Maximum: 32 years (General/EWS).
  • Relaxations: OBC (35 years), SC/ST (37 years), PwBD (42 years).

3. Education

  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university is required.
  • Final-year students can apply but must provide proof of graduation later.

4. Number of Attempts

  • General/EWS: 6 attempts
  • OBC/PwBD: 9 attempts
  • SC/ST: Unlimited (within age limits)
